Welcome to Countryman's Pleasure

Countryman’s Pleasure is under new ownership. Former chef-owner Hans Entinger, a culinary graduate of Simon Knoll School in Munich, has personally trained our new chef, Joshua Bartholomew, to ensure that your favorite Bavarian dishes remain authentic and phenomenal. Chef Josh brings with him fresh ideas for lighter, continental dishes to compliment the traditional Austrian and German menu, and a separate menu of small plates for casual dining in our tavern.

Our shuttered farmhouse opens its doors to you. All are welcome. Come, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal. We take pride in serving fine food in a comfortable, Old World atmosphere.

Our favorite restaurant in the Rutland Area

The food is always excellent here. The best scallops I have had anywhere. My husband enjoys the Austrian Fare (he spent 3 years in Germany) and I enjoy the chicken when scallops aren't available. My long-time favorite dish, the apricot chicken is not always available, but the chicken cordon bleu is an almost-as-good substitute. We always go here for special occasions.

Good European Style Food

We had supper here at the suggestion of my brother-in-law, who is a local. Most food is German Style and everything is made from scratch, guaranteeing freshness. I had the bratwurst with garlic mashed potatoes, red cabbage and sauerkraut, which was good. Atmosphere was a bonus.

Terrific, Authentic Food, Cozy Atmosphere

We stop in for dinner every time we visit Killington and Pico and have had consistently great food in a cozy, rustic atmosphere. Nice mix of locals and winter sports enthusiasts (the price range and location mean that the younger crowd is not there).

A Taste of Germany

Wow! German food that takes one back. Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Spaetzel, great food and great atmosphere. Stop in for a great time.

Best German food I've had in States

This quaint restaurant is by far the best German food I've had within the United States. Everything is homemade, inclusive of the sauerkraut, red cabbage, and mashed potatoes. We also had a chance to meet the owner/chef, Hans, who was extremely gracious and most definitely talented. If you find yourself near Mendon, Vermont which is not far from Killington, absolutely stop by and try Countryman's Pleasure restaurant.
